City of Bruceville-Eddy holds city council meeting amidst increased security
Security was increased at Monday night’s city council meeting in the small McLennan County town of Bruceville-Eddy, following an attack on the mayor and a heated meeting last week.
The mayor says someone threatened his life if he attended Monday night’s meeting.
The mayor was there and so were dozens of other residents. After the fights, assaults and threats, the Bruceville-Eddy Police Department made sure security was in place as well.
Mayor James Tomme and all remaining council members were in attendance at Monday night’s city council meeting in Bruceville-Eddy.
There has been a lot of drama in Bruceville-Eddy lately. Starting last Thursday night at the last council meeting.
First City Secretary Jana Garner was fired for lack of confidence. Then Bruceville-Eddy resident Delia Eicke says Councilwoman Susie Browder choked her after the heated meeting.
Witnesses who were at the meeting say the two have a long standing feud that came to name calling the night of the incident.
"Basically when someone calls you a whore, you know, you are gonna go after them, I would." Bruceville-Eddy resident Tifni Simmons said.
Then Sunday night the mayor himself was the target of violence when someone threw a rock thru his front door hitting him in the face.
He was also told not to attend Monday night’s meeting, but sporting a scar under his eye he came anyway.
Residents say this all stems from some residents not being happy with the direction the council is going. Some even claim the council has been strategically planning to get rid of the city secretary and others for months.
Deanna Hargrove just lives in Bruceville, but she says someone threatened to kill her family if she attended Monday night’s meeting.
"The first thing its gone do, its gone make me mad and then the second thing I’m gone do, I’m gone get even." Hargrove said.
But, residents like Fran Neisen came out to urge calm, reminding everyone of the American way.
"The people of Bruceville-Eddy voted them in. they didn't walk in the door and sit in the chairs and just say well I am here." Neisen said. No one knows who the threats are coming from.
Amongst this chaos the council did take care of some business, they appointed a municipal judge, an emergency management coordinator, and a temporary city secretary. News Archive >> |
